Embracing Change In Uncertain Times- COVID-19

It is an uncertain time for everyone right now as the world changes around us like it never has before.
COVID-19 has brought the world to a standstill and is challenging us in diverse ways; our right to freedom is being taken away, and so are our civil liberties.
Embracing the change and finding hope during this uncertain time might just be the only way to get through this somewhat unscarred.

It’s understandable that people are fearful and anxious, and might be starting to lose their way. After all, who are we and what do we do with ourselves if we aren’t doing what ‘we do’?

Just remember, there is one thing we all have in common right now, and that is we are all in this together, we are united. And if history is anything to go by, we will get through this.

So how do you embrace the change when the future seems so uncertain?


Staying positive

I have found that by seeing the bigger picture, it helps me to remain positive and stay grounded. What exactly can this teach us, and how can we embrace the changes happening around us during this uncertain period of our lives?

Maybe this is the universe’s way of hitting reset on our lives and giving us, the entire human race, the chance to start over.
Imagine if going through this global pandemic is precisely what we need to be going through, to really, truly make the world a better place?
I don’t know what will come of all of this, but I do know that amongst all the bad, all the hard times and all the heartbreak, there will be good. Maybe it will be the change we need to see in the world.

Perhaps this will teach us to shift our focus to the things that truly matter in life; love, gratefulness, compassion, family, community and Mother Earth herself.
Maybe this will teach us to make changes to create a better world for ourselves and others.

Now is the time to broaden your picture and to recognise the things in your life that may be causing you unnecessary stress, anxiety or unhappiness.
It could be the corporate job you hate, cosmetic friendships, all the expensive things you buy that are in-fact worthless, or the worrying of always trying to plan for a ‘better’ future.

Now is the time to let go of those things, and learn to find happiness in the present.

Ride the wave

I won’t tell you to stop being fearful, because you have every right to be. We are all fearful in one way or another. But own that fear and take control of it, steer it in the right direction. Because we will get through this, humans are resilient during hard times, it’s our survival instincts.

Focus on what you can control

I’ve never been one to worry about my future and work towards long term plans or goals because the future is never guaranteed. Right now, this rings truer than ever.
So instead of focusing on what you can’t control, focus on what you can control. Be present in today, in each moment. Show unconditional love to the people you care about and savour every quality moment with them.
Embrace this time of change in our world, to create change in your own life. See it as a new beginning. You have the opportunity to change the way you see things, do things and understand things.

Find a passion or learn something new

Now is the time to unlock your creative self and let those juices flow.
Do you want to learn to play the guitar? Now is the time. Do you want to start a blog or write a book? Now is the time. Do you want to start reading again? Now is the time.
It’s time to start working on self-development. Learn something new, develop new and better habits. Create a morning routine that sets your day up for success.
You have the opportunity right now to make the most of these hours spent cooped up at home, and turn them into something positive.

To wrap it up

Amongst a world of chaos, my advice is to try to find the calm and see the good. Take notice of how people unite to nurture and protect each other. Take notice of the environment and the undeniable positive changes this is having on climate change.

Try to stay focused on the good and the things you can control, and you may very well come out of this a stronger person.
The world will be waiting for you on the other side, prepare yourself to make it your playground once again. But this time, a bigger and better playground.

    Super well written! And whole heartedly agree.
    The best thing to come from this pandemic is that people won’t take other people or experiences for granted.
    So often we took for granted catching up for drinks, or going to the beach or a nice restaurant. The options have always been there to do so.
    Now it’s not an option, we realise how much more we should be grateful for. And let’s hope we continue to show our gratuity for a long time to come
